The tests found significant amounts of asbestos, a banned, fibrous flame retardant once commonly used in insulation products, but which is now known to cause cancer and other lung problems, in the industrial waste burial site, which was discovered by journalists from TheBlackSea.eu (Zeynep Şentek), and Medyascope (Doğu Eroğlu).

In 2019, Zeynep Şentek and I conducted the on-the-ground investigation for the Asbestos Hill story, which appeared in TheBlackSea.eu, and many other European online newspapers, alongside with Medyascope.
